Creating Partnerships - Changing Lives

D

ogs for the Disabled trains dogs to help disabled people live life more independently. Our dogs are trained in practical tasks such as opening and closing doors, helping a person undress, even taking the laundry out of the washing machine.

If a dog can be trained to open the door, then a disabled person is no longer housebound but free to go out and live life to the full. But the effect of our dogs doesn't end with practical tasks. In addition, they help build confidence, break down barriers for social interaction and, of course, provide companionship to their owners.

To date the charity has trained over 290 partnerships and aims to train over 35 partnerships in 2004. There are still many more people that could benefit from a dog and so live life to the full. Dogs for the Disabled is a registered charity.
